Rock Lyrics Vol. 9 – Tuesday Afternoon

Rock Lyrics Vol. 9 – Tuesday Afternoon

There is nothing pretentious or complicated about this song. It’s simply a tune about Tuesday Afternoon. The lead singer of The Moody Blues, Justin Hayward, was sitting in a field one lovely afternoon, it was a Tuesday, and the song just came to him. The rest is history.

Released in 1968 on the all-time classic album Days Of Future Past [where it was listed as Forever Afternoon (Tuesday?)], it was actually a two part song that ran over 8 minutes in length. Getting AM radio management/owners to play anything over 4 minutes was very difficult, so we teenagers at the time only heard the first part played repeatedly, which is what I’m presenting here.

I loved this tune from the very first time I heard it. I had the privilege  to see The Moody Blues play live at Casino Rama almost 10 years ago. They didn’t look anything like they do in the video (which is a live performance from 1970), but they sure sounded the same. It was so great to see them live, 45+ years after I first became a fan!

Without further ado, here are the sultry sounds of

Tuesday Afternoon

The Moody Blues

Tuesday afternoon
I’m just beginning to see
Now I’m on my way
It doesn’t matter to me
Chasing the clouds away

Something calls to me
The trees are drawing me near
I’ve got to find out why
Those gentle voices I hear
Explain it all with a sigh

I’m looking at myself reflections of my mind
It’s just the kind of day to leave myself behind
So gently swaying through the fairyland of love
If you’ll just come with me you’ll see the beauty of
Tuesday afternoon
Tuesday afternoon

Tuesday afternoon
I’m just beginning to see
Now I’m on my way
It doesn’t matter to me
Chasing the clouds away

Something calls to me
The trees are drawing me near
I’ve got to find out why
Those gentle voices I hear
Explain it all with a sigh

Live Long And Prosper.
