I LOVE ROCK and ROLL
Joan Jett and the Blackhearts
This has long been my rock music anthem. The steady if uncomplicated beat, straight ahead guitar, strong vocals, it is the prototypical rock song. But as I mentioned in the introductory post, I don’t pay much attention to the lyrics. Now that I see the lyrics in black and white, it turns out this is a girl-meets-boy love song! Or, if not a love song, a hook-up song:
And I could tell it wouldn’t be long
Till he was with me, yeah me,
However, it still gets my head-bobbing whenever and wherever I hear it, so it will remain one of my top favourites. Incidentally, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts are installed in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as of April 2015. Well deserved!
So, without further ado … Rock On:
I LOVE ROCK AND ROLL
Saw him dancing there by the record machine
I knew he must a been about seventeen
The beat was going strong
Playing my favorite song
And I could tell it wouldn’t be long
Till he was with me, yeah me,
And I could tell it wouldn’t be long
Till he was with me, yeah me, singing
I love rock n’ roll
So put another dime in the jukebox, baby
I love rock n’ roll
So come and take your time and dance with me
He smiled so I got up and asked for his name
That don’t matter, he said,
‘Cause it’s all the same
Said can I take you home where we can be alone
And next we were moving on
He was with me, yeah me
Next we were moving on
He was with me, yeah me, singing
I love rock n’ roll
So put another dime in the jukebox, baby
I love rock n’ roll
So come and take your time and dance with me
Said can I take you home where we can be alone
And we’ll be moving on
He was with me, yeah me,
We’ll be moving on
And singing that same old song
Yeah with me, singing
I love rock n’ roll
So put another dime in the jukebox, baby
I love rock n’ roll
So come and take your time and dance with me
I hope you liked the live version rather than the manufactured video version. Live is always better!
Live Long And Prosper!
